Cortisol Manager
This supplement by Integrative Therapeutics® contains a blend of ashwagandha, l-theanine, phosphotidylserine, magnolia and epimedium. It has been formulated to support an adaptive and balanced cortisol response to stress.
Here is an overview of how the ingredients work:
Ashwagandha has been used in traditional Indian medicine for centuries to alleviate fatigue and improve general well-being. Preliminary human studies suggest ashwagandha may improve energy and cognition levels in certain groups of people. In a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial, supplementation with standardized ashwagandha root and leaf extract led to significant experiential and biochemical improvements in indicators of stress, including sleeplessness.
L-theanine is an amino acid known to promote relaxation and reduce stress. It increases the activity of alpha brain waves which has been associated with a relaxed yet alert mental state, muscle relaxation, and reduced anxiety.
Phosphatidylserine, which is extracted from soy lecithin, has been clinically shown to significantly reduce serum adrenocorticotropin (ACTH), cortisol levels and salivary cortisol levels following mental stress. It also reduces plasma levels of epinephrine, norepinephrine, ACTH and cortisol after exposure to physical stress. This phospholipid is a critical structural component of neuronal cells and helps promote a positive mood.
Magnolia and Epimedium are included as botanical synergists which, based upon evidence in animal studies, may have a relaxing effect and support the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis for a healthy response to stress.
Magnesium Glycinate/Malate
One of our favorite Magnesium products is by Vital Nutrients and it combines Magnesium Glycinate with Magnesium Malate. Magnesium is a key mineral and has many critical roles in our body. Magnesium directly interacts with your muscle tissue through a process called ion transportation. When magnesium contacts your cell membranes, it bonds with specific receptor sites that open up the cell membrane and allow other mineral ions to enter, such as calcium and potassium.
The glycinate salt form releases glycine and produces a calming effect. It is often used in formulations intended to enhance sleep or relaxation. The malate form has been reported as helpful in overall muscle function as it is a co-factor in energy-producing reactions. So, in essence the magnesium glycinate relaxes the mind, while the magnesium malate relaxes the muscles.

Another Consideration: Progesterone
As a compounding pharmacist, I must say a word or two about the mighty power of progesterone. When in balance, this hormone brings improved sleep and mood while also allowing women to feel like their normal, terrific selves. We can compound different capsule strengths in order to dial-in to exactly what your body needs. We also offer sustain release capsules with methylcellulose (E4M) to help keep those ZZZ’s flowing all night long.
